Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) FAQ
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program designed to help Canadians access affordable dental care. It provides financial assistance to those who do not have dental coverage and have an adjusted household income of less than $90,000 a year.
The CDCP is available to Canadian residents who are under 18, 65 or older, or individuals with a valid Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate. Eligible individuals must not have private or workplace dental insurance and must have a family net income of less than $90,000. All remaining age groups are scheduled to be eligible sometime in 2025. (https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/apply.html)
The CDCP covers a range of dental services. For specific details about covered services and any limits, please visit the official Canadian Dental Care Plan page. (https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/coverage.html)
Applications for the CDCP can be submitted through Service Canada. Parents can apply on behalf of their children under 18. (https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/apply.html#apply-online)

Yes, there will be out-of-pocket costs. The CDCP fee guide is not the same as the Provincial fee guide which our office uses to set it’s fees. Additionally, there are three tiers of coverage for the CDCP based on income levels:
- under $70,000
- $70,000-$80,000
- $80,000-$90,00
If you would like a better idea of the anticipated costs in your particular scenario, please contact our admin team who can provide more information.
Coverage under the CDCP will last as long as you remain eligible and continue to meet the criteria set by the plan. Annual changes to income can affect your eligibility and we recommend you confirm eligibility as well as tier of coverage with Service Canada on an annual basis. The federal government has officially said that “The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is currently approved and will remain in effect until June 30, 2025. After June 30, 2025, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will continue to evolve and expand its coverage.” At this time, our understanding is that the funding required to support the CDCP is dependent upon annual Federal Budget approval.
Yes, individuals with existing coverage through other government social programs may still be eligible for the CDCP.
